Evidence before the material promise

Pavilionsortwalnt is an independent information website about concrete alternatives and the questions that make them specifiable.

Why material chapters?

Lower-impact construction is often described through a procession of new products. We take a different route: identify the part of the material system that changes, then examine the performance and environmental evidence needed to support that change.

Our four chapters distinguish cement reduction, alternative binder chemistry, carbon uptake and aggregate reuse. They can coexist within one product, but their mechanisms and claims should not be confused. This structure is intended for architects, specifiers and informed clients who need a clearer starting point for technical conversations.

How we use sources

We prioritise standards, research organisations, lifecycle assessment frameworks and identifiable institutional resources. Industry guidance can be useful, but an industry roadmap is not independent certification of a product. A laboratory result is not a record of site performance, and a declaration for one plant is not evidence for every supplier.

The evidence index identifies starting points for further reading. Standards may be revised, withdrawn or adopted differently between jurisdictions. Readers should check current editions and local provisions directly. We do not reproduce paid standards or substitute short summaries for their requirements.

What changes in the specification comes before what changes in the environmental claim.

The editorial approach used across these chapters.

What we do not do

We do not sell concrete, rank proprietary products, issue certifications or approve construction details. Our articles are general educational information, not structural, chemical-handling, regulatory or procurement advice for a particular project. The responsible design and construction professionals must assess suitability.

Rendered specimen images explain material concepts. They are not laboratory micrographs, test results or photographs of a certified product. Construction photographs provide context and do not imply that a depicted project uses the material discussed.

Corrections and correspondence

If a source no longer resolves, a technical distinction needs improvement or a statement lacks sufficient context, please send the page address, the passage concerned and a supporting reference. We assess corrections on their evidence rather than on whether they favour a material route.

Use the specification-note contact tool to prepare a message locally, or email [email protected]. The tool does not transmit an enquiry automatically.
